Like Heaven on Water

Aunty’s pal Sandy has a fantastic picture on her wall of a photo she snapped with her camera one day from her lanai.  It was a cumulus filled red, gold and indigo sunrise sky taken during those days when our Hawaii sunrise and sunsets were unbelievably beautiful because of the dust in the air from an erupting volcano in the Philippines.  Mount Pinatubo in 1991.  It is a picture that stops Aunty in her tracks.  It’s a WOWza.

This shot was taken 2 weeks ago with Aunty’s iPhone5 (let’s hear it for Apple!) at Kuliouou Beach Park.  Aunty edited it with the iPhoto’s “Straighten” tool because the horizon was a bit off with the original shot.

Aunty is a sky and earth kind of person, Uncle is a water person.  Uncle was far out in the water during low tide while Aunty waited on a grassy shore.

Uncle loves it, Aunty thinks this one is a WOWza, too.

  1. You had me at “Aunty’s iPhone5”. Then when you said that it was Uncle in the photo, I loved the picture even more. And when you went on to explain that you were waiting on the shore, I felt a tug at my heart.

    • Aloha Jalna,
Aunty gave away her old digital camera because it seemed obsolete compared to the iPhone5 built in camera. It was a spur of the moment shot, the reflection of sky on water was not evident since I couldn’t figure out what was happening to Uncle’s image – he looked upside down! Duh, it was his reflection, and so I took several shots zooming in and out, not too happy. It wasn’t until I looked at the photo gallery did I see the bigger picture, and I went, WOW! Made Aunty feel kinda professional, lol!
If only you were there with your really good camera and truly professional photography abilities – you would win a Pulitzer or whatever the award there is for photo shoots.
This place tugs at our hearts too.
      Aunty
