Net metering is a mystery
This is Aunty’s August electric bill – $10.42! It is a little different from the old bills that reflected Aunty’s solar panel savings ever since Hawaiian Electric people recently came to change out the old meter with a new digital panel.
Every month, the bill is really small, and usually around $20.
This month, it was even smaller, even though we used more electricity than we gave to Hawaiian Electric! We used more because it has been so hot and humid, and ran the ACs in the house a LOT.
Ah well, no matter. Aunty takes the savings even if it is not understood. It was the best decision of the decade for the house. We used to pay over $300 for our electricity in the past, until the folks at Alternate Energy came to install the panels and system. It cost $24k, and this year we got tax credits of over $13k, so in essence we paid around $11,000 and will save almost $4,000/year on our electricity bill every year from now until almost forever!
Uncle made a wonderful and wise decision, reflected every month, each time Aunty opens up her surprising Hawaiian Electric bill.
