Baa, humbug

I am sick as a dog and it is not fun at all this Halloween night. However I am discovering that I am a grinch about holidays and the preparation that goes into the “special days” such as cleaning, cooking, ordering food, etc.

Baa, humbug. Maybe it is because I am sick and tired. Hope that is it because now I have 2 little grandsons that want to have a fun grandma. We’ll see.

Post script: Took a Covid test today at the Blaisdell (very easy to do but you MUST register online to get a QR code first at testing.nomihealth.com. You get to choose a location nearest to you and even though you are early or late, it doesn’t matter much since lines are short and fast. In less than 1/2 hour I got my results for Covid. NEGATIVE. Phew! Makes me feel less Baaah, but I still don’t like the expectations and hoopla of celebrations.

    • Bummers, Dex, but all of the pick up sites are out of stock. It actually was easy enough to get it at the Blaisdell if I signed up and got the QR code online. So techie nowadays.

  1. There has been a pretty bad viral cold going around our area too. I know several people, including my youngest daughter, who I would have bet money had Covid but turned out to just have this viral cold.

Hope you get to feeling better.

As far as having to miss a holiday, Halloween would be on the top of my list of ones to miss. Thanksgiving or Christmas would be at the bottom.

    • This is one of the worst colds that I have ever had, and seems like my poor little grandson has a viral cold with fever. We really don’t know if we have the same colds so have been quarantining from each other. My sleep pattern has been off and thus the cold is lingering because I heal when I sleep. I’ll use something strong tonight to knock me out. Mahalo for your good wishes. And, if I had to choose, I would keep New Years because I love the start of things.

  2. Oh ouch! I’m so sorry you’re sick, Aunty. Actually, there were no trick or treaters in our neighborhood. However, friends and relatives in Mililani and Makakilo tell me they had lots of kids and even ran out of candy. I’ll begin thinking about the holidays next year. This year?…. I’m letting it go.

  3. hope you recover soon!
Not counting last year, bought some candy for Halloween and one year, 5 kids came. Second year, one came. Luckily I anticipated this happening so bought good candy that I like, LOL
I feel same as you, not sick, but just tired of all the holiday preparations and I don’t even cook! Even with take out, such as bringing in one of the prepared Thanksgiving meals that all the restaurants are doing, involves a lot of prepping and clean up at home.
    Bah, humbug!

    • I love a fellow humbugger! Am recovering very well. And I, too, would always buy only the candies that I really like – 100 Grand, Kit Kat, Reese’s cups, M&M’s peanut. The big bag from Costco was so worth it but the Almond Joys, Snickers, and Mars bars would be left and abandoned.

Actually one of the best ways to avoid preparing for the holidays is going away. Or, one year ALL of my kids went off on a trip to Okinawa together so I had Christmas and New Years to myself. THAT was very nice.
