When I was given a nice old big potted plant, it has several stowaways alongside the main plant. Even when I removed it from the old (broken) pot, loosened the soil around the roots and set it in the new pot with fresh soil, a few tenacious weeds/grass were so tightly embeded into the top layer, it was difficult to clean up without damaging the already stressed out plant.
My new neighbor Chika across the street had just helped me in my yard when I was weeding and she brought along her pliers. You know how deep and stubborn the invasive Haole Koa bush can be, and I had so many of them to pull out. Chika whipped out her pliers and pulled out dozens of the starters with so little effort! Of course, she is 40 years younger than me – but still, those pliers and Chika did a beautiful job.
So, this is what I use for stubborn weeds and unwanted plants that have burrowed into my pots and yard. It is such a great tip that I wanted to share with my readers – all 10 of you, lol.
- Poor night blooming jasmine had grass roots choking its base
- This terrible grass had the longest, strongest, thin roots
- Pliers to the rescue! Grab and pull!
